Korean BBQ in Apgu-jung

So after visiting my friends coffee shop, we went around the corner to 떼부짱, one of my favorite Korean barbecue places.  This is your “hole in the wall” type restaurant, plastic stools, oil drums converted into tables, and plastic awnings to keep out the cold.  But all of the tasty meats are priced under KRW 15,000 per serving, they give generous portions, and the service is excellent.

They are famous for their 목항정살, I don’t know the english translation but it’s pork and it is delicious!  Think, juicy pork chop!  And don’t forget to grill kimchi with your meat.

Then we got 2 orders of the 갈비살, again I don’t know the english translation, but its beef.  I don’t like my meats to be pre-seasoned or covered in sauce when I am doing Korean barbecue, but since it’s not the best cut of beef, they slather on some sesame seed oil and probably a little bit of sugar to help the cause.  It’s not the best 갈비살 I’ve had but it gets the job done.  If I wasn’t concerned about my waistline I would have ordered the 생삼겹살.

Pretty much everything on the menu is good here!  The 된장찌개 is packed with tofu and vegetables, the 김치찌개 is a meal by itself, and I’ve seen a lot of people getting the 김치칼국수 after they are done eating meat.

If you have not been here, it is a must go!  Especially if you have friends visiting from the States, you know they will want to eat barbecue and you’ll probably be in Apgu, so GO!
