Food + Soju + Good Times
투뿔등심 is not just your run of the mill Korean BBQ restaurant, what makes it different is that you grill up good quality steak. The name literally means 1++ steak, with the 1++ being the highest rating for beef in Korea. A phenomenal idea that is likely to spread in Korea and back in the states.
They charge KRW 29,000 for 150 grams (5 ounces) of “aged” sirloin steak. Relative to Korea, the price is very good for the quality and quantity. Most Korean BBQ restaurants charge you $50 per serving of 등심 or steak, and you can expect to pay $100 for a steak at a nice steakhouse in Korea. Beef is expensive in Korea, there is no way around it.
The restaurant was exceptionally clean and nicely appointed.
The side dishes looked fresh and appetizing. They used nice clay plates, no plastic or metal bowls.
The doenjang-jjigae (KRW 6,000) was very good.
Get the fire and grill hot, very hot!
Let the meat sit for 15 minutes to bring it down to room temperature, drink some beer or cheers some soju while you are waiting. Beautiful marbling!
Only flip the meat once or twice.
Do not cut into the meat while it is cooking, all the juices will run out and dry out the steak.
Let the steak sit for 5 minutes before you cut it up or else all the flavorful juices will escape. The meat does not need to be piping hot to enjoy the taste.
A nicely cooked medium steak.
A beautifully cooked medium rare steak!!! Very proud of this one!
I think this place is amazing! It’s very clean, with great service, and you can’t find a better deal for steak in Korea. On average Korean BBQ restaurants charge KRW 20,000 for 갈비살 or boneless rib meat, a far inferior cut of beef. But here you can upgrade from a driving a Honda to a BMW for a few bucks. If I had to nick pick, I wish they offered some potatoes or vegetables to grill alongside your steak. And they also don’t charge a corkage fee if you want to bring wine from home or the store.
Rating: 10 out of 10!
