Food + Soju + Good Times
Coyote Saloon is a new pizzeria & bar in Hongdae that I read about on one of the Korean food blogs that I follow.
The space is small but quaint and the interior design is very eclectic, so it gives a dynamic feel.
Grapefruit salad KRW 6,500. The grapefruit was so fresh, cold and juicy. The candied ginger and the mint leaves were a perfect match to the bitter/sour grapefruit. A very refreshing appetizer for the hot summer days and a great pairing with the Hoegaarden beer.
Margherita pizza KRW 12,800. A traditional margherita pizza has a tomato sauce base with slabs of fresh mozzarella cheese, basil leaves, and a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil. They made the pizza in reverse, it was a cheese pizza with no sauce! It was so dry, I was extremely disappointed and frustrated! They seem to have a legit clay oven because the pizza dough was thin, soft, chewy and smoky; it was very nicely done. So I know they have the capacity to make a better pizza, perhaps their other pies are better.
The margherita pizza was bad but besides that it’s a pretty cool joint. They have a nice little menu with some innovative items like the grapefruit salad and they also have a liquid nitrogen ice cream dessert. It’s definitely worth a stop-in because the prices are not bad and its a refreshing change from the loud overcrowded places in Hongdae.
